Govt. Industrial Training Institute, Solan is one of oldest Govt. ITI’s located in the State of Himachal Pradesh. This Institute was established on 19th February 1959 with six trades having an intake capacity of 92 seats only. But now after successfully functioning for 52 years, it has risen to the status of well-reputed Govt. Industrial Training Institute of the State with 23 trades/Modules of ITI & COE consisting of 53 units having a sanctioned strength of 1063 seats in various Engineering ,Non-Engineering Trades and BBBT & Advance Modules of COE(Centre of Excellence). Govt. ITI Solan celebrated its “Golden Jubilee Year Function” on 12th January 2009. Govt. ITI Solan has been upgraded to A-Grade ITI wef 9th February 2010.

Govt. ITI Solan is running classes in three shifts wef August 2009 session as per the need of the industry for maximum utilization of Machinery & Equipments.

After recommendation of Confederation of Indian Industry, CII (NR), DGE&T, Ministry of Labour, Government of India, New Delhi, Govt. I.T.I. Solan in Himachal Pradesh has been selected as “Pilot Project” along with 4 other ITI’s in the country for improvement of Industry-Institute Interface by constituting IMC (Institute Managing Committee). In this connection, Government of Himachal Pradesh has notified the constitution of “INSTITUTE MANAGING COMMITTEE (IMC)” for Govt. ITI Solan vide notification No. EDN/TE/A (2)/96 dated 25th November 1998 and modified notification vide No. EDN/TE/A(2)/96 dated 27th July, 1999. IMC comprise of 11 members in which 5 members are from Industries and five members from Govt. side and Principal of Govt. ITI as Member Secretary. Chairman of IMC is from Industry side.

Govt. I.T.I. Solan has been certified as “ISO-9001: 2008” by Moody International Ltd. on 10th January, 2005. Thus Govt. I.T.I. Solan has become first Govt. I.T.I. in Himachal Pradesh as well as in the Northern Region to achieve ISO-9001:2008 certification. Govt. I.T.I. Solan has also become the first Educational Institute in Solan city to get ISO-9001-2008 certification

Govt. ITI Solan was selected among 100 ITI’s in the country by DGE&T(Directorate General of Employment & Training), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India for Centrally Sponsored Plan Scheme of Up gradation of ITI’s into “Centers of Excellence” in “Electronics Sector in the year August-2006 under Domestic Funding Scheme. This institution received funds amounting to Rs. 1.60 crore for its upgradation under the scheme.

Govt. ITI Solan has become first ITI in Himachal Pradesh to start 92 courses in 10 sectors in the various Flexible Delivery Mechanism (Part Time, weekends, full time, onsite/ offsite to suit needs of various target groups) MES (Modular Employable Skill) courses under SDI (Skill Development Initiative) scheme of DGE&T (Directorate General of Employment & Training), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India under N.C.V.T.

Govt. ITI Solan is also running 16 short term vocational courses on Sundays & off hours under NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) wef August 1999.

IMC of Govt. ITI Solan has also started LMV & LTV Motor Driving Training for outsider candidate’s also wef January 2011.

IMC of Govt. ITI Solan has signed an MOU on 9th August 2011 with M/s. Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, a Company incorporated under the Indian Companies Act 1913 and having its registered office at Gateway Building, Apollo Bunder, Mumbai 400 001, regarding upgradation of Motor Mechanic Trade & Electrician workshop of this institution under CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) scheme of the industry. The company will provide the aggregates amounting to Rs. 15 lacs to the institution. M&M as a part of its global ‘Corporate Image and Business Policy’, conducts programs on various aspects of automobile manufacturing and servicing ( referred to as ‘Mahindra Special Technical Education Programme for Students’ or ‘M - STEPS’) to Indian student community who are undergoing certain specified and government recognized technical course. M - STEPS is a program in addition to the regular syllabus prescribed to the Institute.

Govt. ITI Solan is the only Govt. ITI in the Himachal Pradesh in which Motor Mechanic trade and Electrician trade will be upgraded by Mahindra & Mahindra.

LOCATION:
Govt. ITI Solan is located in the heart of the city below the Mall Road and is near to Railway Station and new Bus Stand. It is about 45 Km from the capital city of the state Shimla and 75 Km from the city beautiful Chandigarh.

LAND AND BUILDING:

This Institute has adequate land and building with a total area of 8960 Sq.m (11.946 bighas) This Institute was started in the old building in the year 1959..
The Boy’s Hostel Building having an intake capacity of 100 trainees was taken over on 1st August 1968. .
The New Workshop Building was taken over on 4th June 1971.
Now, the ITI has the accommodation for staff also. At present, there are 6 Nos. of Type-II quarters for staff and 1 No. Type-IV quarter for Principal. Type-II quarters were taken over in August 1992 and Type-IV quarter was taken over in August 1994. Three Type-II Quarters in the hostel building were converted in 2001
Additional Workshop Building and Administration Block was taken over on 11th December 1998.
Two floors of additional workshop building for Centre of Excellence in Electronics Sector were taken over on 16th December, 2008.
Additional Two floors of COE building were taken over in April 2011
Girl’s hostel of 40 capacity is under Construction.
New Multi Purpose Hall is under construction.
